Psychologist and trauma psychotherapist

Trauma — midlife — identity

I work with high-responsibility women in perimenopause and menopause whose professional self is cracking — often because a trauma-shaped nervous system now has less hormonal cover.

They still look capable. What has changed is self-trust.

Sessions are online.

The first conversation is to see whether this collision is what is happening — and whether we are a fit.

  • I treat trauma. I do not prescribe HRT.
  • Medical menopause care sits alongside this work; it does not replace it.
  • I am not a Health Psychologist.

My work sits at the collision of trauma physiology, hormonal change, and identity. I see women who have spent years being the composed one — at work, at home, or both — and who no longer recognise themselves in midlife.

Hi,
I’m Dr. Lucy Flitton

I am Dr Lucy Flitton, a psychologist and trauma psychotherapist.

That is often not a personality change. Identity is who you are. Capacity is what the system can access right now. When hormonal cover drops, a nervous system shaped by trauma or high vigilance has less buffer. The old output becomes expensive. Shame grows if we treat that as a character problem.

How
I work

This is trauma psychotherapy, including somatic and complex-trauma work, held inside a midlife physiology frame.

We look at identity and capacity together. We take the professional self seriously — because that is often where the crack shows first.

I collaborate with GPs and menopause-literate medical care. I do not manage hormones.

Client Reviews

Dr. Flitton is a gifted, wise, and experienced therapist. She is professional and creates an environment where I feel safe sharing and where I feel heard and supported, and the materials she has shared with me have been spot-on and enormously helpful in my journey. Her knack for distilling what I've expressed into real, understandable reflections that help me to understand my thoughts and their origins is precious and unique, and something I've not experienced in therapy until sessions with Dr. Flitton.
